While nearly one in five youth in the United States are obese, the rates of obesity vary greatly across racial and ethnic groups. According to the latest findings, African-American and Latino youth carry the highest obesity rates, which significantly increases their risk for type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
South Carolina, ranks 9th in the nation with over 20% of youth ages 10-17 experiencing obesity and 17% of SC high school students living with obesity.
North Carolina ranks 10th in the nation with over 19.8% of youth ages 10-17 experiencing obesity and 15.4% of NC high school students living with obesity.
